Whole Foods Taco Tasting

I got invited earlier this week to go to Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting and try their new tacos. So they have a taco truck now, called Blue Route, and it’s on their roof. Yeah, you heard me right. It’s a taco truck. But it’s on the roof. For real. So they took a taco truck, without an engine, and hoisted it up onto their roofdeck with a crane. Apparently, they did it at 4:30 in the morning. Some lady just told me this. It’s going to be open pretty much every day, so anyone can get taco truck tacos, even in the burbs! The official grand opening is Friday, April 15. That’s today!
The menu is simple – tacos! And some drinks.
From left to right we have the fish taco, carne asada taco, and the pork carnitas taco. The tecate fish taco with chipotle mayo is typically made with haddock but on this night was made with halibut. There’s also a slaw made of cabbage, carrot, lime juice, and cumin. This was my favorite of the three. So good! The carne asada is of course hunks of steak with queso frseco, onion, and cilantro. The pork carnitas is spiced pulled pork with tomatillo salsa, tomatoes, garlic, and spices. These were also good, but the fish taco ruled. T
hey are all served on white corn soft tortillas. Some have one tortilla, some have two, there didn’t seem to be a pattern. They also have a spiced chicken and a veggie taco. If the three that I tried were any indication, the other two are probably also very good. Considering the lack of other real taco options out there (maybe besides La Michoacana in Norristown), I’m quite excited about having this permanent truck in the burbs!
