Canyonlands National Park

Our first day was spent at Canyonlands National Park. There are two main areas to visit, Islands in the Sky and the Needles, but the Needles requires a 4×4. So we were only able to check out Islands in the Sky. It’s a fitting name, indeed. Things really do look like they’re floating in the sky. It’s hard to see the massiveness of this park in the photo. The place is ginormous. They have a few nice areas for picnics, with tables and all. So we got to enjoy our chipotle turkey sandwiches from Love Muffin. The sandwich in and of itself was fine, but it was so darn dry. And when you’re out in the heat hiking all day, the last thing you want to do is bite into dryness. I think if there were more condiments or veggies or something, it would have been a lot better. It’s a big honkin sandwich too, so it’s totally worth the $8. All of their to-go sandwiches also come with either chips or a piece of fruit.
Here’s one last shot of this park. This was our first day so we only ended up hiking a few miles. Little did we know we’d turn into hiking machines.

  1. Hey, besides sandwiches from Love Muffin, Red Rock Bakery, Moab Sandwiches from the town of Moab. Over to Dead Horse Point State Park at the visitor center sandwiches and coffee are being sold — called Pony Expresso — opened June 2011.
