Airport Snacking

The Indianapolis airport is quite nice. It’s small, but it’s quite new, so it’s sparkling clean. And they have tons of food options, which is always a plus. I wasn’t that hungry, so I just snacked mostly. During this trip I became a big fan of the cheese danish at Starbucks. Seriously good. I also got some soup at the Wolfgang Puck place. It was tortilla soup, and also good.

Eating While Travelling

I had a layover in Denver and I almost got stuck there. I was so close to being very depressed about this. Luckily, the mechanics saved the day and we did end up taking off. Before we did, I had plenty of time to eat. Way too much time actually. They actually have a decent array of food options at the Denver airport, and I ended up going to this itza wrap! itza bowl! place and got a teriyaki bowl. It was brown rice with some steamed veggies and chicken with some sauce poured over it. Pretty simple really. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t that great either. The rice and veggies and sauce were fine, but the chicken was blah. Again, similar to my Boston’s chicken that was in my salad, this chicken was really blah. It seemed boiled again. It would have been so great if it had actually been grilled with some teriyaki sauce. While I was there, I also got a fruit cup to go. I got to enjoy this on my flight home. This was a surprisingly good fruit cup. Everything was ripe and fresh. The coolest thing about it was that the cup the actual fruit came in, it was made from corn! Ok, so I couldn’t eat the cup, but because it was made from corn, it was biodegradable and compostable. Cool, huh? I thought so. I also started reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love. Yeah, I know, I’m super late on reading this best seller, but it’s better late than never. The book is very entertaining, especially the first third which is dedicated to her time in Italy, where pretty much all she did was stuff her face. Sounds like a dream!

Atlanta Airport Dining

Renting a car in Mexico is not fun. It takes forever, picking it up, or dropping it off. So you best just get used to waiting in lines. Because it took us so long, by the time we got to the airport, they had to pull us out of the line so we could sneak in front of everyone to catch our flight. That’s how close we’d cut it. So we had nearly no time to eat.

We grabbed something quick and my turkey and cheese croissant ended up being ok, but R’s philly cheesesteak turned out to be atrocious. Note to you all, don’t get a philly cheesesteak at the Cancun airport. So when we got to Atlanta and had plenty of time to actually sit down and eat, we went to Chili’s. Yes, Chili’s. Here’s a not-so-secret secret. Whenever I’m at an airport and I need to eat, if there’s a Chili’s, I’ll eat there. Chips and salsa from Chili’s. Ok, it’s so not the same as when we were in mexico. The chips were thin and greasy and super salty. The salsa was runny. But we still enjoyed it nonetheless.
R’s quesadillas.
And yes dammit, I ordered me a salad. Why? Because I’d gone an entire week without eating any uncooked vegetables and my body was actually craving lettuce. And luckily, it was a giant plate of lettuce with a nice sizeable piece of chicken on top. I believe it was the southwestern cobb salad. The only bad part was that they forgot to put bacon on it and I didn’t even realize they’d forgotten until I was pretty much done. It’s a shame too, because it would have been that much better with heaps of bacon. Dang. But for my first real post-Mexico meal where I could relish in as many raw foods as I possibly could, it was perfect.
