Denny’s? Really?

Yes, seriously, Denny’s. Looka here, when you’re driving around SEATAC, there’s pretty much nothing to eat. And I mean nothing! We just needed a snack.
A with her chocolate shake.
Denny’s hash brown. Don’t any of you poo-poo this. I love me some denny’s hash browns.
I also got the caramel apple crisp a la mode. I was wavering between this and cheesecake and our super friendly server recommended this. Dude, it was so good. And now, I promise not to go to a Denny’s again for another 5 years.

Cafe Apamate

I remember hearing great things about Cafe Apamate. Passing by it the other week, I thought to myself, oh, that’s where Cafe Apamate is! After a half-assed attempt at going to Sabrina’s or Morning Glory, I knew that we could actually go to Apamate and get a table! It’s a tapas place. The chef is venezuelan who grew up in Spain. And she’s a woman. Whoo hoo! The place is freaking adorable. Red walls, dark woods, lovely photographs on the walls. I wish my house looked like that.
Cafe con leche. Don’t ask me, I can’t do caffeine. It’s fun to look at.
The tortilla espanola, the traditional spanish omelet. It has potatoes, onions, and obviously eggs. It comes with a kick ass spicy aioli on the side. And a little side salad with strawberries and pine nuts. Everything – delicious.
The tostas con pisto, with stewed squash, eggplant, and tomatoes on toasted bread and topped with a poached egg. I don’t eat nearly enough vegetables, but surprisingly, I do like eggplant and squash, and stuff like that. I really enjoyed everything about my meal, except the pine nuts. That’s ok, I picked them out. And yes, of course I had to get the churros. Freshly fried! Whoo! With a chocolate sauce that was clearly not cheap milk chocolate. I made sure to clean this plate! Service was great, our waitress was super sweet and friendly. The food doesn’t come out super fast, but that’s ok, I was just enjoying the atmosphere there. It just feels comfortable. Plus, I was practicing balancing spoons on my nose. I’m good at it.

Ants Pants!

So the Ants Pants Cafe. Cute as a button. Tiny as a button. So easily missed if you’re not paying attention for it on the street. They even have a button-sized patio out back, but really, it’s muy petite, yo. We got seated inside right quick, in one of these two tops with totally not enough personal space in between tables. And they had all these pillows on the bench side, between the benches, so I felt like a prisoner in some sort of pillowed restaurant cave. I got rid of them and then felt much better. I think the people who run the place are Aussies. There’s Aussie paintings everywhere, and some Aussie inspired items on the menu (like vegemite).

The spinach, bacon, feta salad with grilled chicken. I kind of liked the banged up plate it came on. I was completely uninspired, because yes, sometimes, I can eat straight up boring food. I got the brekkie platter (so boring that it did not warrant a picture), which was 3 eggs, toast, and bacon. Whoo hoo! I got eggs over hard, and they came out lovely. I also got country white toast (yes, again, boring!) and this toast was great. It was a very thick and dense cut of bread. All I really wanted was some plain ol grape jelly, but they had raspberry and apricot preserves., which were awesome. I asked for a little bit of both, and doh, they charged me 85 cents for each of those. Gah! That ticked me off a little bit, but then I got over it.

The service was great. The food took an awful long time to come out though, but I can tell that’s just from each order being made to order and the food being made with love. I didn’t mind it at all. The bespectacled waiter with the bun in his hair was super nice and polite. He can feed me a boring ass egg, toast, and bacon breakfast any day of the week.
