Beau Monde!

The sis-in-law was insisting on getting crepes. We had gone to the other place last year, so we went to Beau Monde this time. Whoo hoo! Finally! I’ve been wanting to go here for a long ass time. The place is adorable on the inside. Very frenchy. There is also some outside seating. We got there fairly early and almost scored an outside seat, but got screwed out by people who had been waiting for it.

Mom got the scrambled eggs with blueberries and maple syrup in a sweet crepe. How was this? Um… good!

My bro was the only one who got a savory crepe. He got the andouille sausage, ratatouille and caramelized tomato sauce crepe. Oh yeah, this was good too. But in a completely non-sweet crepe way.

Sis-in-law got the pears, chocolate, and creme anglaise crepe. This was good too, but I wasn’t too crazy about it. It’s not for me.
I got the banana, white chocolate, caramel, and vanilla ice cream crepe. Oh baby. This was better than I thought it would be. And people, these crepes are big. You will be stuffed. I can see why everybody raves about this place. The crepes are stupendous. The place is adorable, the service is pretty good, the food comes out quick, and it has a good vibe. I like that there’s so much variety that you could come here and get something different each time. That’s my plan.

Santa Monica Pit Stop

Thursday night was my last meal in LA… then I was heading on home to good ol Philly. To laze the early evening away, we headed down to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica for a bit of the old beach time. After walking around a bit to all the shops and such, we stopped for some eats at Cafe Crepe. The place is pretty cute, inside and out, and very euro.

S went with the thincrust pizza with eggplant and squash. It was pretty good… seemingly healthy. The veggies had a bit of a smoky flavor to it.

Mmmm… a giant side of $2 fries. Simple, hot, salty. Pretty good stuff.

I went with a savoury crepe – ham and cheese, nothing complicated here. It was good. Nothing too thrilling, but perfectly acceptable. It was quite a lot of food, even though it doesn’t necessarily seem like it.

The service? Eh… not too hot. We sat there for an extremely long time before anyone came over and gave us a menu or asked what we wanted to drink. And the food took even longer. Everyone else was getting their food except for us. And the servers aren’t exactly the nicest. They’re a bit loud and rude, but honestly, I don’t know that they don’t realize that that shouldn’t be the norm. I think they need a bit of a lesson in customer service. I bet the sweet crepes were good, but we just didn’t have room.

Quick Bites

Slurpee that came in the cup? Not too good. Collectible cup? Adorable.

Awhile back, I was at a BP station on Girard when T needed to get some cash. He came back with cash, and some of these delightful Howard’s Honey Plantain chips. I don’t know where else you can get these. I ventured back there the other week just to pick these up. They’re still good.

A few weekends ago, we stopped by Reading Terminal Market to grab a quick lunch. Z got some indian food at Nanee’s Kitchen. It wasn’t bad. I got a crepe at Profi’s Creperie. I’d totally been hankering for some crepes. I got a banana honey crepe. I think I expected it to be light on the honey. Perhaps drizzled in honey. But it was drowned in it. A little too much honey there profi’s! Give those bees a break. Otherwise, it was filled to the brim with bananas and quite good, if it wasn’t for that weird feeling you get in the back of your throat when you’re dealing with too much honey. And a quick shout out to the milkshakes and smoothies made by Freal that you can get at Wawa. So they only have limited flavors, who cares? They’re cheap and they’re good. And you get to mix it on your own, so you feel part of the experience.
