How To Feed Scallops To Your Personal Shopper

One thing I love doing is helping people spend their money. This way, it’s free for me, and I get to live vicariously through their purchases. So after I helped P drop a bunch of dough on some threads, he fed me at Legal. He got their lobster lover deal thing. It’s a lobster! He got broccoli with cheese and mashed potato as his two sides.
It also came with a cup of their famed clam chowder. Their rolls are pretty darn good too.
And to round out the lobster deal, an amazing slice of cheesecake. Now I like cheesecake, but it’s not like I know much about it. But hot damn, this cheesecake was good! The texture was luxuriously creamy and it shocked me how good it was. Maybe I was expecting something mediocre, but mediocre this was not! We were both surprised by this.
I had the grilled scallops, because I am boring and unimaginative when it comes to eating here. This is what I always get because I know it will be good every stinkin time. And true to form, these were great. Sorry for being so predictable!

Impromptu Pho & Cafe Viet Huong

If someone were to drop me off on Washington Ave anywhere near either of the two vietnamese shopping centers, I’d be a happy camper. So it’s no surprise that I end up here as much as I do. I always long for pho when the weather gets to be this bitter cold. Pho & Cafe Viet Huong is always a go-to place for me. Their yummy yummy cha gio, the fried spring rolls… I never noticed before that they come out on personalized plates!
Here’s the vermicelli bowl with pork meat balls, except they’re not meatballs, they’re more like creepy dark pink finger-like sausages. But good sausages! The bun here is quite good, but what’s with the extra thick noodles these days? They’re really puffy.
Here’s my pho bo kho, which has a spicy broth and giant hunks of stewed meat. It’s supposed to have rice noodles, but strangely, it had extremely skinny egg noodles instead. Bizarre! I didn’t care, but it was really weirdly unexpected. It tastes just fine and hearty, regardless. I love this damn place.

FoodBuzz Fest

I got to attend the second FoodBuzz Blogger Festival this year, once again in San Francisco. For the opening night festivities, we headed out to Fort Mason for a Welcome Reception and Street Food Fair. They had these adorable mini cupcakes arranged to form a FoodBuzz sign.
They tasted awesome too. I’m not sure what flavors they were, but I’m guessing pumpkin or spice or something. They were definitely fall flavors.
There were also beautiful arrangements on the tables of some fruits, cheeses, breads, and crackers.
Roli Roti was there again this year, with their crazy porchetta sandwiches. There’s nothing like pork skin to make a sandwich taste better. And these fingerling potatoes were awesome, and you could totally tell they were cooked in pork fat.
Mind Your Tongue had some viking gumbo. They call it this because the chef is of viking heritage. But this is not gumbo, nor is it an old viking recipe. But it’s not bad.
They also had vegan paella. This wasn’t really paella either, but this was better than their “gumbo”.
Tacolicious provided a bunch of tacos. Honestly, I wasn’t very impressed with this at all. It was mostly blah.
French street food? Why yes! This is the truck version of Chez Spencer.
Here is the new england lobster cappuccino soup and the braised lamb chunks sandwich. Good stuff.
But my favorite thing of the evening was Namu’s korean tacos. They were ssam style tacos made with kalbi short ribs, seasoned rice, pickled daikon and kimchee salsa, kimchee remoulade, and a drizzle of housemade teriyaki sauce, folded into japanese and korean toasted seaweed. This is my type of taco! What a fun night!
