H Mart Japanese

I often don’t feel like cooking, so one of the easy ways out is the H Mart food court. Here is the pork tonkatsu with a couple of fried shrimp from the sushi joint. Oh, and also a smattering of fried dumplings. And these strange round potato type croquette things. We had no idea what they were. There was also some obligatory salad with ginger dressing, rice, and miso soup. The ginger dressing was not very good. The pork cutlet and the shrimp were fine, but the sauce for the tonkatsu was unpleasantly sweet. If you want good tonkatsu from the H Mart food court, go to the other place that serves tonkatsu, even though I can’t go there anymore ever since the food taking 45 minutes incident.
I’ve never actually gotten the food from the sushi place before. My mom nearly always gets food from there, and I always remark that it looks good, but then I never get it. Well, I was craving udon, so I actually decided to take the plunge! I got the udon with a california roll. California roll – good! Udon – good! It’s not the most exciting, but it’s a good deal for a nice hot bowl of udon soup and a fresh california roll.

More Saffron Indian Kitchen

It felt like I hadn’t eaten out in along time. And in a way, it was true. After all the holiday meals with family and post-holiday happenings that were not conducive for dining out, we finally had to escape. We went to Saffron again. I do not remember the menu looking this nice. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention last time.Although their plain naan is fine, I wanted to try something truly different. This is the spinach and cheese naan, and frankly, this is now my favorite kind of naan. Fresh spinach and ooey gooey mozzarella. This is seriously good.
J’s favorite dish, the kadai paneer makhani. Homemade cheese with green bell peppers and onions in a sweet and tangy tomato based sauce. I have to agree, this dish is pretty amazing.
I got the chicken korma because it’s one of those dishes I like to try at any and all indian restaurants. It’s really good at Saffron, but perhaps a bit on the safe side. They use really good quality ingredients here. And they don’t skimp with the rice either. They’ll bring out piles of it for you, if you ask.
Mango lassi and the rice pudding. I think this is the rice pudding they kept on trying to push on us last time. Both are good. But since I’m not a dessert person, I don’t really know. And on a thursday night, this place was still hopping. That makes me happy.

Tacos In Norristown – La Michoacana

When in the burbs, one of the few places to get decent mexican food is at La Michoacana in Norristown. Some of you might be afraid, but really, it’s not that scary in Norristown. Especially in the middle of the day, one should not be scared.Requisite chips and salsas… the red one was a bit spicy, the green one was meh, and the pico de gallo was nice and fresh.
The milanesa torta… it’s weird getting french fries with mexican food, isn’t it? The menu says mexican french fries but these are just regular french fries to me. This is a breaded flattened steak served with lettuce, mayo, and jalapenos. It’s a perfectly good sandwich, but nothing particularly mexican or exciting. Also, if your doctor tells you to not eat red meat, then don’t order this sandwich.
The three taco platter with rice and beans. I ordered the al pastor but there wasn’t any pineapple on it, which was sadly disappointing. But there were a bunch of onions. Did they run out? Did they think I wouldn’t notice the difference between pineapple and onion? Did I order something else? They weren’t altogether all that exciting, but I did like them ok and I love their rice and beans. Service was fine and their festive and colorful decor is always cheery. We didn’t have the best food that day but it’s still better than most mexican-ish food that you’ll find in the burbs.
