After that terrible lunch at Anh Hong, we had to be redeemed! So we went for a sure thing at Sangkee in Wynnewood. Check out these sexy sake carafes. I’m taking a guess it’s $4?
The duck. You know why I don’t do roast duck? Well, first, I don’t really care for the taste of duck. But more importantly, it’s all the damn bird bones. I can’t stand having to pick around or pick out the bones. I’m far too lazy for that.
This is why I stick to their delicious roast pork. There’s nothing but meat to be had. No thinking required, at all! I love this stuff. And they put some of the juice all over the rice. And I don’t know what these greens are, but I love them too. You can’t go wrong with this place.

I’ve been blogging for awhile and I’ve been eating for my entire life, but I don’t claim to actually know anything about food. I just like it a lot. And even though I don’t know much, there are a few food-related rules I follow. One of them would be to not order chinese food at a vietnamese restaurant. I warned J, but he did not listen. And that’s how he ended up with the worst sweet and sour chicken dish in the world at Anh Hong Pho & Cafe. I tasted it and it was sort of strangely sweet but not sour at all. And I didn’t taste the chicken, but he said it tasted like processed chicken product, not even real hunks of chicken. It was just bizarre. And the onions were pretty much raw. Not good at all. In fact, it was bad.
I ordered the pho with brisket. Oh dear. This is the fattiest and gristliest “brisket” I’ve ever had in pho. And frankly, this meat was hard to eat and hardly worth eating. It really was mostly fat. And the broth was pretty mediocre. So I can’t particularly recommend this place for pho. It’s just not the pho for me. But let me say it again, their vermicelli bowls are awesome. And I will get those over and over again here. But the pho? Skip it. And definitely skip any of the chinese dishes!

We went to Gaya to celebrate my uncle’s birthday. Man, are we boring, or what? We always go here! They got fancy new menus. Unless they’ve always been like this. But I swear these are fairly new.
As you know, they really do have an excellent variety and high quality banchan.
And they had my favorite spicy and sweet marinated raw blue crab banchan that day. Best. Banchan. Ever.
For any of you who complain about the fact that you have to cook korean bbq yourself, go here! You can cook it yourself if you want, but they are more than willing to help you out and do pretty much all the cooking for you. So you can kick back and just watch them do it. It’s totally good meat too.
I’ve eaten here several times and everything has been good. It truly is one of the better korean restaurants in the Philadelphia area. But, I have discovered that it is definitely not without its flaws. Take this yukgaejang here. This thing wasn’t that good. It was pretty darn bland and the meat was super blah. This is so not the dish to get here. So now you know!
Some tofu stew. This is good. I would venture a guess that most of their stews are good.
But the thing that was absolutely beyond amazing was the grilled spanish mackerel. And of course my picture is going to be crap and blurry. Oops. But it is amazing. It’s a beyond huge piece of fish and it’s perfectly grilled and it’s slightly crunchy on the outside and just freakin delicious. Damn I can’t stop thinking about it. It was a particularly slow night there so service was extra attentive. You need to get this fish dish!

" list. So of course, I decided to try them all. Join me for this 15-post series, as I test out each of these cocktails to see just how worthy they are.
