Stopped by Osaka in Chestnut Hill for a little lunch the other day. It’s a cute little place on the main drag. There’s the sushi bar in the front, and then multiple floors of dining. We sat at the bar as R had never sat at a sushi bar before. She got some salmon and king crab sashimi, along with some miso soup and some sprite in a fancy glass. She liked this just fine, but it sure wasn’t cheap.
I went with the agedashi tofu bento box. It came with agedashi tofu (duh), some california roll, a couple of dumplings, salad, and rice. Everything was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. My bento box was pretty cheap though, but it also didn’t have any fish in it, which is probably why it was so affordable. But all in all, quite the bargain for my lunch.
Service was fine. It wasn’t busy at all (it was raining something fierce) so it better have been fine! The only thing annoying was that one of the waitresses was gabbing to one of the sushi chefs the whole time we were eating. It’s fine if they want to talk (it’s not like they had anyone to wait on), but I really didn’t need to hear their intimate conversations. They even spoke in korean a bit, and I couldn’t help understanding.

After the not eating at Mexican Post, we had to get some actual food. Some folks headed over to Moshi Moshi, so we eventually ended up there too. On the extra roundabout walk there, I had to stop by Capogiro for a free sample or too. R had never been there, so I had to indoctrinate her on all the glory that is Capogiro.Moshi Moshi is a small sushi place on 18th. I’d been there once before that, a couple of years ago. I remembered it being just fine before. R got a couple pieces of sashimi and a philly roll. She barely ate any of this, not because it was bad, but because she didn’t realize how much food it would be.
I got a house salad with the ginger dressing. I was pretty happy with this. This is one of the better ginger dressings I’ve had as of late.
I ordered one of their roll specials of the day. For the life of me, I can’t remember what it was called or exactly what was in it, but from this photo, I see salmon, asparagus, avocado, mango, and maybe soft shell crab. It was pretty good.
A/H was sitting at a different table, but he ordered this beautiful green avocado covered roll. I just had to include it just as food porn.
The service was ok, but we got there fairly late and it felt kind of rushed. They said it was last call for food and it was about 9:30. But it was a Tuesday night, so I don’t blame them. The prices here are reasonable. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s a decent and low-key place to grab some sushi.

Remember a year ago when there was all that mom is turning 60 hoopla? All the crazy meals? All the shenanigans? All the to-do? Well, it’s a year later, and that time again, but only 61 this time, which basically means nothing. Well, nothing other than I took my mom out for a birthday dinner. And without fail, what does she pick? Sushi. That’s what she always picks. Seriously, she’s a creature of habit.
The place is small and next to the vet. That’s just how I’ve always known it. Oh, Ginza, next to the vet, right? You get complimentary edamame. I love anything complimentary.
Moms went with sushi regular. The food came out nice and quick and everything was fresh.
I got a paradise roll, which had crabmeat, avocado, cucumber, eel, and salmon. Quite tasty.
I also got a tempura udon. It was a good sized portion and simple. It wasn’t too salty or too sweet, it was quite plain, but in a a good way. The shrimp tempura were a good size (not too huge) and nicely fried.
The service is pretty good. The host (owner, I think) is just about the nicest man ever. Strangely enough, during our visit, there were tons of kids there, and I mean young kids. It was as if it was family night at Ginza. I don’t know about you, but I’d never seen so many kids at a sushi place in my life. On a cute note, there was a little girl you was trying to eat edamame. It was hilarious, ad the slippery little suckers kept flying all over the place! Ginza is not cheap. In fact, it’d been a few years since I’d been, and while the food stayed the same (still good) it really did seem like the prices went up. That was a disappointment, but the food itself was great.
