S&H Kebab House

S&H Kebab House is a turkish spot just off of south street. I wonder what the S and H stand for. There’s some dining on the outside, but there was no way in hell we were going to torture ourselves in that heat. So we dined inside. They also have a website where you can order food, make reservations, etc. They’ve definitely embraced the interwebs.
Their hummus! It’s served with a basket of warm pita bread. Yum!
Here are the Manti. These are a turkish version of dumpings. They are steamed, filled with lamb, and topped with garlic yogurt sauce, a tomato based sauce, and mint. These are super tiny and cute! We thoroughly enjoyed these.
But really, I came here for the adana kebap. This is hand chopped lamb flavored with red bell peppers, light hot peppers, paprika and grilled. You also get two different types of rice, grilled whole tomato and pepper, and some raw and marinated veggies. These kebaps are wonderful and seasoned really well. Because it’s chopped, everything is super tender. The rice sides were a bit overdone and mushy, but I didn’t mind. Be warned – these peppers may not look hot, but they are. So don’t go and swallow them whole, unless you like the pain. Service was nice and friendly!

Memorial Day Eats

On this past super hot memorial day, I went for a cookout at M’s mom’s house in Newtown Square. Wow, I hadn’t been there for such a long time. I have fond memories of playing in my “rock” band in high school and ruining their deck. Ah, teenage good times. Speaking of good times, we thoroughly enjoyed these mojitos, made with mint fresh from their garden.
P manned the grill and cooked up burgers, veggie burgers, and hot dogs galore.
Somehow, it almost turned out to be a salad party. We had a multitude of bean, veggie, chicken, and potato salads. Also, one of the guests brought some deviled eggs, complete in deviled egg trays. Gadgets never fail to impress me. And this jar of pickles nearly killed us. P had stuck a bunch of scotch bonnets into this jar and did not warn anyone. So when you bit into this innocuous looking pickle, it lit your mouth on fire. I almost cried.
Dessert was just as fun. We had some strawberry shortcake with a homemade pound bundt cake that was super dense and amazing. There were brownies that I absolutely loved, even though they were out of a box. There were even two homemade ice creams. Plus, they have a kick ass back yard and deck and it was just lovely being out, even though it was beyond hot!

Poolside Eats – Orlando

After the third and final day of trade show goodness, and where it was actually truly warm enough to hang outside, we ate at the restaurant at the hotel pool. And really, the weather could not have been lovelier. And it was super relaxing. For me, a passion fruit smoothie to soothe the stress away…
I think these are southwestern style egg rolls. These weren’t half bad!
A grilled chicken sandwich with fries. You can’t really tell from the photo, but this sandwich was huge. I mean, like freakishly huge. Like fit for three people to eat huge. I snagged a lot of these fries and really liked them.
I got the fish tacos. They were served with some guac, pico, sour cream, and mango salsa. The tacos weren’t all that great, I ended up eating only two of them because the last one just wasn’t worth eating. But the fixins were all good! And the fruit too. And the food came out beyond slow. I mean, you’re at a pool, so I guess you can just hang out. But it was really nearly unacceptably slow. What are you gonna do?
